HOW DO YOU MAKE BAKED HONEY SESAME CHICKEN?
Preheat the oven to 325 F. Cut the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and season them with salt and pepper. Place the cornstarch in a medium-sized bowl.
Crack the eggs into a separate bowl and lightly beat them. Dip the chicken into the cornstarch then into the eggs.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the vegetable oil and cook the chicken until browned. Fry just until crispy on the outside.
Place the browned chicken into a 9×13 baking dish.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and 1 tbsp cornstarch.
Pour the mixture over the chicken. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
pro cooking TIPS:
- Dry your chicken with paper towels before coating it in the flour and egg and it will adhere better.
- Allow the sauce to thicken before adding it to the chicken. This will help prevent the chicken from becoming soggy.
- Don’t fry your chicken until it is completely done. It’s best just to brown it and transfer it to the baking dish. It will finish cooking in the oven.
- Cook the chicken to a minimum temperature of 165 degrees F and check with an instant-read thermometer.
- Unfortunately, you will need to double or triple the recipe because it’s so good your children will empty their plates.
HOW TO STORE AND REHEAT THE LEFTOVER HONEY CHICKEN?
To store leftover Baked Honey Sesame Chicken, first allow it to cool completely at room temperature. Transfer the chicken to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag, and then store it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. When ready to eat, reheat the chicken in the microwave or in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes until warmed through, which helps retain its texture.
CAN HONEY SESAME CHICKEN BE FROZEN FOR LATER?
This recipe is so easy to freeze but it will lose its crispiness. To freeze, cool completely and store in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in a skillet until the chicken is warmed through. Another way to do this is by freezing the chicken aside from the sauce and once you reheat the chicken, you can pour over the sauce and bake.
