Equipment

  • 9 x 13 Baking Pan

Ingredients

Apple Filling:

  • 3 ½ lbs. Granny Smith Apples (peeled, cored and cubed) (or use your favorite variety of apples)
  • ½ cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • cup Flour
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Crisp Topping:

  • 1⅓ cups Old Fashion Oats (not instant)
  • 1⅓ cups Flour
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar (packed)
  • teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Baking Powder
  • ¾ cup Unsalted Butter (melted)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apple Filling: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, combine 3 ½ lbs. peeled, cored, and sliced Granny Smith apples, ½ cup brown sugar, ⅓ cup flour, ¼ cup sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Mix well to coat the apples evenly. Transfer the apple mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spread it evenly.
  • Make the Crisp Topping: In another bowl, combine 1⅓ cups old-fashioned oats, 1⅓ cups flour, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon, ½ teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon baking powder. Stir in ¾ cup melted unsalted butter until the mixture forms a crumbly texture.
  • Assemble the Crisp: Sprinkle the crisp topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish, ensuring it covers the apples completely.
  • Bake the Apple Crisp: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  • Serve: Let the apple crisp cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy it warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
