Easy Homemade Cheese Breadsticks

These Easy Homemade Cheese Breadsticks are one of my favorite things to do with my pizza crust recipe. The pizza dough is so easy to make and instead of using it for pizza, I stretch it out, top it with a garlic butter mixture, a little oregano, and lots of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. They bake up golden brown and delicious and it only takes about 10 minutes in the oven. They are delicious when served warm with marinara dipping sauce or ranch dressing.

Ingredients

Ingredients for the Dough

  • 2 Tsp Dry Yeast
  • 2 Tsp Sugar (or honey)
  • Cups Warm Water (110 degrees F)
  • 3-4 Cups Flour
  • Tsp Kosher Salt
  • 4 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Tsp Vinegar
  • 3 Cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 Cup Parmesan Cheese (grated)
  • 2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese (grated)
  • ½ Tsp Garlic Powder
  • ½ Tsp Oregano

Instructions to Prepare the Homemade Dough

  • In a large bowl or stand mixer combine 1 1/2 cups of the warm water with the sugar and yeast. Stir to combine and set aside for 5 minutes. Add the olive oil and vinegar.
  • To another large bowl or large standing mixer add the 3 cups of flour and the 1 1/2 tsp of salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and combine. The dough should be soft but not stick to your fingers to the touch. If the dough is too sticky to handle add the remaining cup of flour a little at a time until the dough reaches the correct consistency. Cover with a clean towel and place in a warm location for one hour to rise.
  • Preheat oven to 475 degrees F with a pizza stone inside or an upside-down cookie sheet inside.
  • Gently punch the dough down. Divide the dough in half this recipe makes two round breadsticks. Place a large piece of parchment paper on your counter and use your hands (or a rolling pin, but it’s easier with your hands) to spread the dough into a rectangle about ⅓ inch thick.
  • Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and brush the mixture evenly over the dough all the way to the edges. Top with parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle with your favorite spices such as oregano and my kids love bacon crumbled all over.

Ready to Bake

  • Transfer the dough (on the parchment paper) onto the hot pizza stone in the oven. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauces like marinara or ranch.  Enjoy!
